Our Mission

Maintain Climbing Access.
Care for Our Canyons.
Build Community.

Vision

Our vision is to steward the mountains, meadows, and granite of Leavenworth through sustainable recreation—connecting the community to the land while protecting its wild character. We aim to foster education, equitable access, and a culture of climber-led stewardship so the landscape remains healthy and accessible for generations to come.

Climbing in Leavenworth

Rock climbing in Leavenworth began in the 1930s when members of The Mountaineers started exploring the granite walls of Icicle Canyon. It grew significantly in the 1960s and 1970s as climbers established classic routes on formations like Snow Creek Wall and Castle Rock. Today, Leavenworth is considered one of Washington’s premier climbing destinations, known for its high-quality granite, traditional ethics, and hundreds of established routes across Icicle Canyon and Tumwater Canyon.

The Canyons

Icicle and Tumwater Canyons are the heart of Leavenworth climbing, housing the vast majority of the area’s boulders and crags that draw climbers from across the country. Through regular cleanups, graffiti removal, trail work, and close collaboration with the Forest Service and private landowners, we work to keep these canyons clean, accessible, and open to climbing for future generations.

The Enchantments

The jewel of Leavenworth climbing, the Enchantments basin, is famous for its turquoise lakes, golden larches, and of course its large, granite peaks. During COVID, sharply increased foot traffic led to greater risks to this fragile alpine environment—including vegetation trampling, soil erosion, human waste impacts, and strain on wildlife—and it is part of our mission at LMA to keep this area pristine while maintaining climbing access for decades to come.
